A message from our parents...
In all neighborhoods, we have dreams for our children. For some of us our lives changed, when a newborn arrived too early, a toddler suffered brain damage after nearly drowning, or when our teenager became paralyzed in a car accident. We are the parents of medically fragile children. We invite you to support O'Hana. |

The O’Hana Heritage Foundation is a 501(c) (3) not-for-profit organization. For more information contact our Executive Director, Tieal Bishop, at (574) 315-6283. The O’Hana Heritage Foundation is seeking corporate and community support for their 2007 building campaign. Whether it is becoming a Major Sponsor for the 3rd Annual Golf Outing or sponsoring an event at your business to raise money for O’Hana (i.e. jeans days, bake sale, holding a car wash, or bring a gift card to work day (i.e Meijer/Target, toy stores, any home improvement store), there are a wide variety of ways that you and your company can support O’Hana. The mission of the O’Hana Heritage Foundation is to develop relationships and secure the resources to build and sustain a home designed to accommodate state-of-the-art technology while offering a nurturing, therapeutic environment for medically fragile children and their families. When the O’Hana house is built, it will be the only facility in the state of Indiana to provide out of home respite care in a residential setting. A medically fragile child is a child whose daily care requires special training by their caregiver (above and beyond typical parenting). Medically fragile children require the use of therapies and/or specialized high tech medical equipment (such as gastrostomy tubes, tracheostomy tubes, ventilators, apnea monitors, suction machines) to sustain their lives. These children are alive today because of the wonders of modern medical technology but because the demands of caring for these children are so involved, the quality of life of their parents and siblings suffer. Respite care is a supportive service that allows families to take a break from the constant vigilance required to care for their children. Respite allows the family time to be “normal”; time to engage in simple activities that most of us take for granted such as going out to dinner or to the movie or even to the grocery store. The life stories of families with medically fragile children are tragic yet inspiring. These parents devote their lives to caring for their child(ren) in ways that go above and beyond what typical parenting requires. Caregiving for these parents often entails hours of physical care and therapies. These parents frequently go days, weeks, or even months at a time without an uninterrupted night sleep. They live with uncertainty, never knowing what tomorrow will bring. The risk that serious illness (or possibly death) is right around the corner for their child is a daily reality. Unfortunately, the work of these parents is invisible to the general public because these parents struggle at home, in silence, to care for their child. “Ohana” means “family” in Hawaiian and, bottom line, that is what we are about. The foundational goal of O’Hana is to strengthen the fabric of the families living in our communities who have children with special health care needs. One hundred percent of the money that you raise and donate will stay in this community to help your employees, friends or neighbors to care for their medically fragile child(ren). Please join our efforts as we strive to see this mission complete. Thank you for doing your part to make the dream of O’Hana a reality! Fundraiser Forms
